History of the Club

Club Background & History

The name “Exeter Hockey Club” is relatively recent — the club was formed in 2023 from the merger of East Devon Hockey Club and Exe Hockey Club.

East Devon Hockey Club had roots going back to 1930 and played numerous teams over the decades, growing from one team post-WWII to multiple squads and building junior development.

Exe Hockey Club itself was originally formed in 2007 from the merger of Exmouth Hockey Club and Exeter Ladies Hockey Club, two long-established clubs in the region.

These historic clubs brought together a range of hockey experience, helping Exeter Hockey Club continue a tradition of community-based hockey in the area.
